Christmas

My one month aniversary of my arrival here has come and gone. I'm staring to settle in, things don't seem quite so strange and overwhelming. I haven't posted in so long, I don't even know where to start.

I counted up the number of surgeries I've been in; nine, as of yesterday. Also, I get to go on rounds with the surgeons, and sit in on outpatient consultations. This month has been an eye opening experience.

The honeymoon stage of my student mission experience is beginning to wear off. The first couple weeks felt like a vacation. I'm starting to realize that this year will not always be new and exciting. But I wouldn't want that. I want to feel at home here. And if I was excited, continuously, for the next six months, I would be exhausted by the end of it.

I will be celebrating christmas with the missionary family I'm staying with. I should have planned ahead and brought more christmas presents, but I didn't. I do have some small flashlights, which I plan to wrap up as a huge, huge present (i'm going to wrap my chair, and put the flashlight on the seat.)

I'm still waiting for my Christmas packages from all you folks back home. I know you have sent them, so it must be the mail that is holding it up.

Well, its snowing outside, so I better go help the kids finish the snowman.

Have a Merry Christmas!

Finally

My visa is back, my plane ticket purchased. Now I am rushing around, getting all my stuff together. Why i didn't prepare earlier is a mystery to me. At any rate, my plane leaves on monday, and I will arrive at ile-ife... um, later that week.
